The Whalehead Club Book Collection

Experience life in the Outer Banks from many different perspectives. Our collection offers a glimpse into the lives of the Knights at the Whalehead Club, along with reminiscences from our locals dating back to the days before roads and modern conveniences made their way to the Outer Banks. Living by the sea deepened my awareness of the constant play between change and continuity. Tasks new to me were ones carried out by every keeper. I watched the turning of the tides, recorded the weather, and marveled at the annual migration of the birds and fish. And for a few months at the end, I slept under the comforting beam of the light in the house that had sheltered keeper families for 60 years (pg. 30).
